On Friday, August 9, the Honourable Mayor of the municipality of Benahavís, Málaga, José Antonio Mena, accompanied by the Town Planning Councillor, Ake Olofsson, attended the ceremony held in the urbanization La Zagaleta. They proceeded to rename Joaquín Sorolla Avenue - which runs from the North Entrance to the Equestrian Club - to Enrique Pérez Flores Avenue, Founder and, until last June, President of this development created in 1991.
La Zagaleta is currently one of the most luxurious, safe and prestigious developments in Europe. It has 900 hectares, and more than 230 homes valued between 4 and 30 million Euros.
Present at the event was, of course, the Honorary President and Founder of the Zagaleta, Enrique Pérez Flores, and the management team of La Zagaleta, represented by its Managing Director, Jacobo Cestino, and Felipe de La Morena and Joaquín Martínez Correcher, both members of the Board.
Enrique Pérez Flores, who recently celebrated his 90th birthday, said during the ceremony that when he and a group of investors purchased the land, had a plan for 3,000 homes, to which he refused, opting to design a space with maximum capacity of 400.
"They called us crazy, but that has been the key to success of La Zagaleta: The wild vegetation and unique environment we have created. I am very proud of all we have accomplished over these 22 years, and very grateful for the support we have always received by the municipality of Benahavís. "
